The mounts are weld on. The brace itself bolts to the welded on mounts. I'm trying to stick as close as i can to the mods listed in the rally prep book. I'm not doing the rear four link boxes, turrets and watts linkage until i get a rollcage fitted in a couple of years time.

Initially the car will be running the pinto with a 5 speed sierra box and english rear axle. Next stage (after i wear the current bits out or break them) is the rollcage, four linked rear end and stronger rear axle if i need it. Then if I have any cash left, i'll look into changing the engine and box to something more historic.

Managed a bit of work on the car before work today.

Marked out the area on the Drivers side C pillar to be replaced.

Cut it out with the angle grinder and a pair of tin snips.

Spent the next hour and bit cutting and fitting the replacement patch from the donor rear quarter.

Took longer than I thought so I'll have to wait til morning to weld it in. Only have the drivers footwell and a very small patch on the top of the drivers side sill and that's it for the rust work. Should be able to knock it over tomorrow.

Yeah. It'll be fun. I still have to do the seam welding and a have a bag of about 30 bits to weld into the floor and shell.

I'm hoping to start work on the arches next week.

Great work Steve.

Gee, makes it so much easier with decent replacement sections [:p]

Yes. Buying that spare rear quarter was one of the best things i've done. I'd take quite a bit longer to fabricate the repair section from scratch. The strengthener is a decent sized thickness and was in good nick. Do you have any pics of the area you need to fix?

Basically the same area but the internal panels may need some repair also [:(!]

I'll have a look at the strengthener out of the spare in the morning. If it's any good, you can have it.

Cheers Steve.

it looks like the "ribbed" section is missing on mine......below the recess that is covered by the plastic pillar trim.

I've got a pic of what's left of the C pillar for you Paul. I'll email it to you.

Well, it's taken a while but as of today there's no more rust! Woohoo.

I welded in the C pillar patch that I fitted yesterday.

And did the C pillar vents. I left the bottom one open on this side. No real reason why, I just did. The camera makes this shot look all rusty. It isn't. When you look at it in person it's all shiny.

Patched a small hole in the drivers sill.

Cut out the rust in the drivers footwell and bashed a replica out of a plain sheet of metal using a ball-peen hammer.

Then welded it in along with two other smaller patches.

I welded this one from both sides as it's lap jointed.

Then did some of the front seam welds.

Next job is the 30 or so internal plugs to replace the factory grommets in the floor pan and to plug up the internal holes in the C pillars followed by the chassis rail seam welding then i'll fit the rear tarmac arches.
