Having had eight hours at work to plan what's next on the car, I've decided today wasn't a total loss. The dud wing will get the chop and will form several parts of new footwell tomorrow.

I've also ordered the new wing. Should be here in mid Jan.

considering that the metal is being butt welded, wouldn't you just weld in a straight line?
aren't weave/xmas tree/4 techniques only useful for fillet welds?

Looking good as always Steve. Nice panel work btw. How much do you charge an hour? Need some help with the MK1![:x)]

The payment I normally accept for working on cars is incinerated meat, sauce and cold drink.

The wing that's buggered is now my source of patches. First patch is in the passenger side footwell, between the floor pan and firewall.

Passenger A pillar is slowly being removed. It's a right pain to do though. I've gone a little further than i expected as i started to chase a seam that was rusty and it just kept going...

Realised today that just because i'm working through til Jan 1 doesn't mean everyone else is so I went parts shopping. I got some 1mm sheet for the rear outer wheel arches so i can start on fitting the tarmac arches, seal up the rear C pillar vent and for the rear firewall. Also got some paint for the bare metal areas i've made.

Hopefully i don't run out of mig gas late next week!

After being distracted this morning by a very nice Zetec powered Mk2, I made my way into the garage to tackle the A pillar. This is a once only job. If i ever get around to buying another Escort, any rust in this area will see me walk. It really is a pain in the arse to work on.

Anyway, I've got the old one removed and the new one dry fitted. Welding etc will happen soonish.
