you go to an upholsterer, and he fits (glues) vinyl of your choice. A lot of originals were sent by dealers to a local upholsterer. (all Cars included)

I have just pulled the vinyl roof off a MK2 2 door and are not looking at putting one back on. I have the small c-pillar trims that go at the end of the vinyl if you want them. cheers Ted

Use a paint roller and some good quality external paint to your colour of choice.

Trust me, it looks just like a vinyl roof but without the hassle or cost!!

This is not a joke! I have done this on many a car and comments have all been, "What a sensational vinyl roof, I didn't know you could get it in that colour!

Nice idea Red Pepper! But I'm after the feel that only vinyl(I've spelt it right this time) can give.

Teddiesign- I would love those trims! I'll message you to work something out. Thanks.

The paint, if rolled right, will give the same feel, especially if it is a vinyl paint

To add a little more left field to this discussion -

A few years ago I was using a Mk2 Ghia as a motorkhana car and the inside part of the vinyl roof was dead (the bit between the seams. After removing that section only, I left the glue on and painted the whole roof (remaining vinyl sections and the gluey centre section - black... Funny thing was you could only tell the difference between the 2 parts if you knew and were within 1m of it..... Alot of people did not believe me - even when I told them - so I recon the paint roller trick would fool 99% of people and no rust issues either...

Seriously - Why do you want a vinyl roof. They were very rare on the 2Dr cars, very 70's ish and best way to rust out the roof / pillars underneath... They alos dont quite look right on a 2Dr as they do on a 4Dr, but that is in the eye of the beholder. On the plus side you can rest your tool boxes on the roof without having to worry about the paint though...!

I got my vinyl roof from east kent trim supplies via Smcka. I am very happy with the quality and got to fit it myself. Its not hard at all when you know how.
