RUST, in average humidity as soon as you have bare metal, rust is back, a brass brush in a drill lightly used to remove crunchy bits, no paint removed, i wipe over with Penetrol, rust is stopped/converted. Panel shops often use
de-oxidene, on bare metal which is basically phosphoric acid + water, & when dry, spray a primer, the rust that you can't see is stopped by the phos. which ever way you go, primer is protecting our precious metal, prior to top coat.
Mollasses + water, 1 to 5, or 1 to 9 water, eats the rust, & has no effect on paint. When washed with water & dried, i treat as above with penetrol my safe choice. I'm just doing it my way. … Penetrol mixes with many paints, & flows beautifully, it's said cannot be used under 2pak, ??
