Got a 2l 79mk2 anyone know if it's 5 or 10v for the fuel/temp gauges. They are starting to become very unreliable, in the morning won't read anything and on way home at end of the day they start working. I've found a few links on how to rebuild the unit but not sure what year they changed the voltage.

Cheers

Pretty sure they are 5V from memory...
I have had to replace 2 of these with electronic ones over the year, and if they go and put the full 12V through the instruments, you need to get the instruments rewired too...

It's not the sender unit is it?  I had a few issues with the temp gauge and it ended up being the sender.

I haven't tried them, but someone posted this link once before.  I kept it as I need to go down that path one day.

when both temp and fuel guages are inconsitent the problem will usually be related to the voltage stabiliser.

All the instruments are 5 volt NOT 10 volt

Cheers,

The problem has changed now, fuel gauge not working at all, and the temp gauge doesn't come up as far as it used to. Reckon this could still be the stabiliser or sender?

Quick update,

Got the voltage stabilizer fitted, all check it delivers a good 5v output. Fuel gauge still not working, temp comes up to a third of the way then fan kicks in and out. Should it come up to halfway? I've only just fitted thermos so before i put it down I over cooling. Any ideas how to test the fuel gauge to determine if it's the gauge or sender unit?
