Hi Guys,

my standard escort diff is rooted so I am looking at getting it rebuilt and going LSD.

My question is this - is it worthwhile upgrading to the Hilux Diff with the KAAZ LSD as the engine will end up being a worked pinto hopefully getting around 150 - 180 hp.

Will the Hilux option be overkill being it is a heavier overall package vs the Trans X.

Also how strong is the Trans X and will it hold up OK with this sort of horsepower?

Many thanks,

Matt

I'd probably choose the trans x and run some decent axles for the hp you are talking...the hilux option is overkill, although the Kaaz lsd is top notch

Hi Matt,

When going the LSD option I dropped in Quaife LSD and haven't looked back since. I don't know how Quaife and Tran-X compare though. I'd be going the Tranx-X (or Quaife) option rather than a Ute diff. For me its about keeping an Escort and Escort but it all comes down to personal choice. My RS 'was'[V] putting out 95Kw at the rear wheels and I've never had a prpblem with the diff.

Thanks Phil & 2MK2,

I have heard the Quaife has issues when one wheel is off the ground with the power still being sent to the wheel with the least resistance. May be wrong though.

I have plans to do some track days so I am leaning towards the Trans X as I want to keep the escort as "escort" as possible.

Thanks for the replies.

Agreed.......Note: my Kaaz unit fitted to a BW has been great, really awesome...I use NEO RACING synthetic oil, it is important/vital to use top quality lubricants...

Further to Phil;s post, Tran X is the plate type where as Quaiffe are Auto torque Bias (ATB) which is kind of like a viscous coupling. They work great as long as both wheels are on the ground.

Both my LSD's are Tran X.

Thanks for the posts guys.  Trans X if def what I want.

I just rebuilt a 3.89 open diff so when that blows up I'll go the trans X.

Cheers
