2 tablespoons of metal is quite a lot... doubt the filter woulda caught it all. and it could have been bottom end which chewed out, wich deposited metal on the cam, causing it to score. car is already blowing smoke, better off pulling engine out and re-doing it.

well my mate rekons HIS mate has got a cortina with a 2ltr in it, thats been sitting in the paddock for a bit, might get that motor running, chuck it in, then rebuild my one properly over a few months or so, cant afford to do it properly right now.

ill pull the crank out and continue inspecting. the bottom end has been knocking for a while, just got really loud, so the cam is only half the problem.

sounds like incorrect rocker geometry, you did buy this cam etc off somone else and just fit it ? the geometry has to be checked and valves stems may need shortening , or may be too short

just get the motor out of the cortina, swap sump and pick up, put it in, new oil, then hammer the freak outta it.
im still using my original block, still goes well.
