Save you buying another engine, just rebuild(or have) your bottom end rebuilt, its not too costly at all.
Most engine builders will inspect, bore, machine and assemble within a couple days and away you go, and wack it back in yourself.
Allow for around $350-$500 +parts to get it built. Obviously depending on builder and on its condition.

Im doing 3 maybe 4 pintos at the moment,ive reassembled 1 engine(pinto) yesterday,and will be doing my(RS pinto)wednsday.
Bore is OK so(just honed it) head, wil get new valve seals,So far its Rings, bearings cost $130,$50 for ARP rod bolts, gasket kit $50-$100 depending on brand, welsh plugs $4ea. then Oil,timming belt, gasket sealant etc........,then on to current RS engine(spare)in a month or so. what else is there to do???????

good luck.
cheers

Why do you need a rebuild? What happened

my escort always had a slight rattle/clack sound, but everytime i investigated i would be convinced it was coming from the head, but i couldnt see anything when i remove the rocker cover, and plus the sound went away on acceleration or high revs, you could only hear it on low revs, and on deceleration,

anywho its been like that for AGES and over the last week it got louder and louder, then i started it up on Sunday and it was quite worrying, started it up again Monday arvo, that was when i decided yeah im gonna have to get a new engine (or block atleast), and i started it up this arvo to put into the shed, (for sleep) and i could NOT believe the noises it was making! death rattles galore! it actually refused to idle, and stalled twice on me, both times i had to jump start with mums land rover, and the engine is very hard to turn over by hand.

whatever has been wearing this whole time reached its due by date within a week ago.

but yeah engine is already removed and sitting on shed floor.

Why don't you just whip her out and strip her down, it's not too hard.

Have a look and go from there.

well strip out made me find, half my cam lobes are scored to the sh*tter, which explains the loud screeching on the last day of running, and i found about 2 table spoons of metal filing in my sump....

haven't pulled the crank out yet.

but my god this looks grim.
