Now i need to figure out why its over heating when its sitting at idle in the shed im suspecting a sus thermostat but when i tested it in boiling water it seemed to open fine

Do you have a Radiator or Fan Shroud fitted.???  ... I didn't know both types existed, now where to store didn't know Stuff.!!

A radiator shroud does help a lot with directing air flow. From previous threads on the rocker gear everything has to be spot on, the position of the arms on the rocker posts, rocker angles, spring  height and  seat pressure. I was thinking about a different cam when first putting my engine together- my brother had gone to a huge amount of effort to have the geometry set spot on and asked me not to change the cam because of the amount of work involved in re-aligning it. The only change I made was to fit dual valve springs and he rechecked the spring height and seat pressure to make sure it was ok before fitting the head.
Cheers,

Rad shrouds make a world of difference. When I first installed a pinto in my MK1 there was no shroud from slam panel to radiator tank or fan shroud and the coolant boiled. Both of these make a big difference to temps. The top shroud lowered temps a lot but I ended up having to fit the fan shroud in the end because it overheated again on a hot day stuck in heavy traffic.

Rocker angles are critical on Pinto's.  It is possible that the clearances are set right but they will still rattle and also wear out the cam and followers faster if they havent been set up right

Is this something the Average Bear can do,??  ... From Where may the "how to do Manual" be Sourced, it's not likely to be Single A4 Sheet.!!!

I sorted the overheating problem turned out to be the ignition timing and was running to lean. I bought i 3 core radiator off ebay with a thermo fan but couldnt use the fan as it fouled on the water pump pulley so i just stuck with the standard fan. Sits on about half now at operating temp. Im not using a fan shroud but i have a stock one might see if i can mount it to the new radiator. As for the noisey tappets i adjusted them to .008 for inlet and wxhaust and they seem to have quietend down a bit after a few weeks of driving it dailey.
