Here's a couple of older threads on the topic.  This one lists bearings to use:

and this one has a little about the differences between UK and Au struts, steering arms etc.

All I want is something that bolts onto a standard Au spec Escort strut without increasing the track, but I haven't figured out what that is yet.

I can weigh them for you if you like?

That would be great.  If possible, weight the original hubs too please.  Might need to add the weight of the bearings to the alloy ones if they aren't yet fitted, just to make the comparison valid.
Thanks!

No probs, but no longer have the original hubs.

2.31kgs approx (kitchen scales) inc the hub, bearings, wheel studs, rotor bolts and bearing caps.

Thanks.  I may have to pull my standard hubs off again some time soon, and if so will post up the weight here for comparison.

Cool,

Either way the alloy ones weigh less.

HI Matt
Just to clarify you're using 2.0L Escort struts or Capri?
What part # hubs did you get?
Also, do the bearings have a code on them to see if I can source locally?

Hi Mate,

I am using the Capri Struts with these hubs and these bearings so can't help if you have the Aussie 2.0 hubs.  Email Rhys though and I'm sure he'll sort you out.

Not sure on the local bearing part numbers but the larger outer bearing is the same as a ford transit I think.

There is a lot more info on TurboSport.co.uk though on the bearings and you'll pay a great deal less too if bought from the UK.

Cheers

I got a set of alloy hubs off Smcka (rally design ones?) a while back and got them fitted to my 2L struts.
It was a bit of hassle cause they were meant for Capri struts, not the 2L ones. And I was using the wider vented rotors too.
I ended up with all these bits.

The bearings I used were:
Outer (small one) Timken SET2 LM11949-LM11910
Inner (large one) Timken cone 15580 cup 15520
The inner one fitted the hub and stub axle ok. But the outer one needed a sleeve made up that looks like these:

The spacers are 14mm wide, 19mm outer dia and 17.45mm inner dia. These are rough dimensions, we had the bearings with us and just machined till they were a nice tight fit. Same with the inner one on the stub axle.
Then when I put them all together there was clearance problems with the steering arms and caliper mounts.

So I (well I say I, it was actually via MattyJ and his dad ) took 3mm off the mounting face for the rotor, and that moved it into the right spot.

Jesus, bit of a production!

This is one of the reasons I went for the capri struts.

Great work though and they look the goods.

Pretty sure these are to suit the escort struts.  Contact them to be sure though.

Cheers,
