Hi all

Did I read somewhere that alloy hubs can increase track?

Reason being is that the offset of my front rims is 18p so I was wondering if the alloy hubs had a larger offset in relation to the rotor mounting surface and hence pushing my rim mounting point out etc. That way if they increased track by 5mm each side I would be close to the standard track (and offset) to regain clearance from my strut and around my brakes.

If anyone has any experience with this I would like to know. If so what bearings are used with standard mk2 stub shafts?

Grp4 (for example) have them in a bunch of combinations, i.e. choice of standard or large bearings, standard or group 4 studs etc., but they only say "10mm wider than RS2000".  Assuming the RS2000 uses the same hub as Escorts down under (which I don't know for certain is the case; anybody know?), I took this to mean that the width would increase by 10mm each side, giving a 20mm track increase.  It would probably pay to clarify this with the supplier (and let us know the outcome).

Talk to Ulsterman on this forum he knows group4 stuff quite well.
I think they mean 10mm overall.

My Hubs from Motorsporttools.com are 10mm wider each side.

Hi Matt
Thanks!
What bearings did you use to install onto standard Mk2 2.0L struts?

Hey Matt, do you happen to know how much lighter the alloy hubs are?  Did you buy bearings etc locally?

My Hubs from Motorsporttools.com are 10mm wider each side.

Cheers,

Matt

Ok, been in touch with Motorsport Tools and they confirmed the 10mm increase in track each side. My stock hubs are approx 51mm from disc flange to wheel mount flange - there's are 61mm.

If the bearings are easily sourced this looks like my solution.

What is the quality like Matt as theyre quite a bit cheaper than the other suppliers?

I saw on another thread that the UK RS hubs are not the same as the Au ones.  Bummer.

Mine are to suit Capri struts and the quality is the best I have seen but these are the only alloy hubs I have seen so not much of an endorsement.  They are the RIX Engineering ones that were a little bit more and I did a bit of research into the company on Turbosport and have a good reputation.

I got the bearings from them as well.  http://www.motorsport-tools.com/escort-grp4-rix-engineering-front-hub-wheel-bearing-kit-large-outer-bearing-p-268408.html

They are the larger outer bearing type so are a bit more expensive and the benefit may be negligible but they weren't that much more so I thought screw it.

I can weigh them for you if you like?

I got the larger bearing caps to match too but the ones I received were a terrible fit and would fall out if the hubs were held upside down.

I let Rhys know and they got in new ones from a different supplier and posted them to me for free with apologies and no arguments !  They really have excellent customer service, great prices and a good selection of gear.

Cheers

The UK RS hubs are the same as the Aussie Capri hubs & both use the same strut with the larger stub axle.
