I agree with SMCKA - the 244 is for me. If you have good air flow and large carbies (twin 45's are nice) this cam will feel very sweet between 4500 and ~8500rpm. I use standard botom end and dont have any problems on dirt - may be harder on it doing circuit. If you have the $$ it might be worth going looking at a steel crank in the long run - depends on what your focus is. Hope that helps.

yeah for sure so a what would a standard bottom end handle revs wise? naturally ya gonna want a steel front pully and duplex timing chain but internals what is safe?

Cast pistons are the weakest link due to oil drain back design, the sides fall out of them, followed by the crank.

FF engines crack cranks due to constant high rpm, which is only 6800-7000rpm, they don't break pistons as the genuine Ford pistons are not as poor in design as the aftermarket items.

If it's just a fast road engine spend the money on pistons and you should get decent life from the crank.

The 244 cam runs out of puff at 6500rpm if put in correctly and run fine with 40's, the 234 will run well with a 32/36 or twin 40's.

That's not what kentcams.com says nor is it my experience using this cam. I think you may be thinking of the 224? I find the 244 dies off at about 8000 but is useable still till about 8500 if need be.

(The 244's a very nice cam to run in a 1300 if treated like the dirty revving little monkey it so wants to be. Again, dont expect a lot of life out of her but ... )

As the Australian agent for them I pretty sure I knew what I was thinking.

Just because you rev somthing to 8000rpm it doesn't mean it's making power there.

I was unaware of your commercial attachment. I am just speaking from my experience and info from Kent in the UK. Nice to know there is a local contact. Thought you may have made a typo or similar is all. Didn't mean any offence, I'll keep my opinions to myself. No problem.

nah mate keep ya ideas coming, lotus mk1 is very helpfull and full of good info, but just cause you's dont agree doesnt mean your wrong or he is right ya just take it all at face value and give it a crack your self im greatfull for the input from both views as its hard to get much info on the x flow out here as everyone just builds pintos

No offence taken and no need to keep your opinions to yourself.

The 244 is brillant cam however 2 things it shouldn't do are make power to 8K and wear out quickly.

If your wearing it out you need consider the oil your using and valve spring pressures, not enough will see float and the follwers hurting it, if your making it to 8K that won't be your issue, too much and you will wear it out as the oil can't hold the pressure and squeezes out leading to metal on metal contact.

With good oil and using Kent springs fitted correctly this cam will last for a long time.

Sure, I'm quite apathetic really. It was the bottom end I was referring to not the cam. I'm puzzled as to why your info would differ from Kent UK still? Or are you meaning peak power band? Perhaps you have some comparison sheets? I'm no dyno cruncher so my comments are on what I feel from the car only. Not having a go, I really want to know why you say this.

I'm sure also you would recommended Luke use double springs with the 244?
