Cast pistons are the weakest link due to oil drain back design, the sides fall out of them, followed by the crank.
FF engines crack cranks due to constant high rpm, which is only 6800-7000rpm, they don't break pistons as the genuine Ford pistons are not as poor in design as the aftermarket items.
If it's just a fast road engine spend the money on pistons and you should get decent life from the crank.
The 244 cam runs out of puff at 6500rpm if put in correctly and run fine with 40's, the 234 will run well with a 32/36 or twin 40's.
