Hey all,

Who here has tried a Holley carb on a 2 Litre pinto? If you have, how did you go with it? What was involved and do you recommend it?

What's it like to change jets in these carbs?

Regards,

i had one on a stock and reasonably worked motor, pretty decent carb easy to tune and fiddle around with, u can pick them up cheap as two, a rebuilt one was $100
but when i had it on dyno it ran that rich that the air fuel ratio on the computer was one big flat line, it didn't even register , but i never changed the jets so im assuming it was set up for a Torana or Holden v8, worth a shot, give it a go very inexpensive to do

Hey Inferno,

was it a 350 Holley? Also, how'd you go with linkages?

Also, for the amount of fuel it drank, did it get it's power's worth?

Thanks for the info so far, keep me posted!

yeah it was a 350 it chewed the petrol, you might be better off going to a slightly smaller holley, i think its like a 280 or something like that, i mean i never got the full potential out of it as i never had it rejetted and tuned, it was just slapped on , with unknown specs, linkages look relatively simple to make, i had a carby shop make mine though, but look pretty basic

The Angular discharge Holley's are what you need.

The 500 Holley ported manifold to suit inlet ports.

The only problem is with Two or more left hand corners, fuel starves in the float when ya trying some offensive driving.

So does anyone know how easy these carbs are to rejet and play around with? I've got a 350 that I've always had as an option but yes, it may be too much considering is jetting up for a v8 engine.

If it can jet it down considerably I'll be happy, but that'll mean I'll have to change everything else with it (venturis, etc etc) right?

Will a 280 use the same base plate as a 350 to adapt to a pinto?

Thanks.

holleys seem to be one of the better mass produced carbs. all the tuning parts are freely available. it wouldn't hurt to have a read of a couple of different holley books, and david vizard's how to modify ford sohc too.

basically you will need to get the main jets right for cruise, then fiddle with the power valve restriction for full power. good power, and good economy is possible.

Hey all,

I've done it. It's on and worked out. I've put size 60 jets in it and to be honest I'm happy with the result.

It's not a pig. One pump on accelerator, turn the key, it starts, idles and within 60 seconds I'm ready to drive. Smooth cruise up to top speed after fiddling around with the plunger and I've still got to work a bit more with power valve. The carb cost me nothing and the rebuild kit was 50 bucks and it's kept my escort alive.

I've still got to get a universal cable to do the linkages properly, but my set up right now is working fine for me. Sounds great on idle as well, better than I've got from any other carb (besides Dellorto 40s DHLA).

So, all is good, thanks for your help all who offered.

Hey everyone,

It's been over a year since I put my 350 Holley on my 2 litre pinto (just a follow up) and I have to say that it's definitely running rich. Plugs are fouling up pretty quick. I think I'd better fiddle a little more with jetting/tuning - I believe that this is above the a mixture screw problem!

Once again, if anyone has had any more experience with this, let me know!

I had it on my escort, i took it off a month later. Just go a single 40 or a 38 off a capri, you will find it's much better and performance will improve.
