I was hoping that someone would eventually open this discussion.

Currently I don't think this info has been made openly available for the Escorts from one single source/database. Obviously the Falcons are fairly well documented. Both the Falcons and the Escorts were obviously manufactured by the same company, so the process and info must be available.

FoMoCo definitely has reliable records available to the current owner of a particular vehicle and is more than willing to provide an "Old Vehicle Report" in the form of a letter on Ford letterhead. Whether or not Ford has the ability, or wish, to compile all of the info and make available to public is another matter.

Don't forget that the date stamped on the compliance plate is actually the retail date, not the manufacture date. I understand that these cars were built in batches. The car may have been manufactured and held in storage on "The Hill" out the back of the manufacturing plant at Homebush in Sydney for several months prior to the car being ordered by the dealer and the compliance plate then being stamped and fitted prior delivery to the dealer.

I understand that there were only 2 or 3 auto RS Escorts ever manufactured.

Hi Jimmy,

This is good news.

Interesting, I always thought that the sports alloy road wheels were a dealer option, not a Ford option.

My recent detective work with the original selling dealer of our car was that they did not keep permanent records over 7 years. So 29 years later would be a big ask.

Details of the original owner is really a big ask. This crappy socialist country has strict non-disclosure laws which make it almost impossible to find the original owner, either through the original selling dealer, or the RTA, or any government agency. Best to ask the guy you've bought the car from and chase back to the previous owners as far as you can. Car clubs will also be a good source of this type of information.

when i rocked up at my mates house to show her my rs2000, her mum came out and told me she had an rs2000 auto 4 door back in the day, with recaro seats and what not, i wasn't to sure if they had ever even made a real auto rs , so good to find out its true, wether hers was real or not may be a different storey, but all good information either way

Surely it would have to be more than that? I reckon over the years I have probably heard of about 8 or so separate RS2000's which are complianced with auto transmissions.
