i wouldn't fancy blowing into a carb as you'll need some sort of control over the igntion so you'd might as well go efi ?? anyway good luck, i have lunched 1 apparently heavy duty excedy clutch that bad that i had no drive at all, it is something that i should of had done properly at race clutch i didn't have the $$ at the time so i compromised but worked out good using an original sachs rs2000 pressure plate (standard on uk rs's i think) with a normal pbr clutch plate, has beed holding up pretty good i suppose, clutch feels soft as anything and has more clamp then my previous one,
the engine started off n/a with a decked block etc 60 thou over.. head was shaved so i swapped it for a standard thickness head that was converted to unleaded just up rated the valve springs no port work at all and standard cam , then used a 2mm decompression plate with an acl mono torque gasket from memory compression is in the low 8's, i haven't had any issues there yet and it's set on around 18psi all the time ( it's been running since march this year ) on my own tune never been dyno'd touch wood , timing should be on the safe side though
