And are you using a MX5 box or escort with adapter?
How did you go about getting rid of the dizzy out the back of the head?

Ok, my engine is out of a KH Laser (FWD). The engines are basically the same for FWD and RWD, there are some slight differences. Try and get the engine with the later crankshaft (it has a bigger snout) as these engines have a nasty habit of flogging out the keyway on the front of the crankshaft. The cooling system was pretty straight forward, basically removing the thermostat housing and blanking it off at the rear, then there is a welsh plug at the front to knock out, fit the MX5 thermostat lower housing (the holes are already in the head) and a mazda E2000 top housing (need to slot the holes), then it takes the standard 2ltr escort top hose. Found a hose to go from the rear heater fitting on the engine straight to the heater core, and then put a fitting into the original waterpump and ran it to the other side on the heater core. Bottom hose is an off the shelf corolla item, cut one end and fitted it straight on, standard 2ltr escort radiator.
The distributer was a little more involved. Basically it is a Telstar Bosch unit (you will notice it now comes out at a right angle). I made the telstar housing fit the BP head, then machined the end off the telstar camshaft and interference fitted it to the BP camshaft (spot welded just to make sure!) and basically angled everything to suit the bubble in the firewall. Was time consuming, but works well.
The car runs the standard Escort gearbox, I made a bellhousing to suit. The gearbox now sits around 1-1.5" further forward(the engine is lots shorter than a pinto, so its not an issue)but it will make the type 9 conversion easier later on, as the hole is in the right spot now!
