Hi all. Does anybody know whether I should be putting some kind of sealer in the joint between MK1 Escort Heater Bubble and Firewall top prior to filling in spot welds? Not sure how to get the seal so that water does not lie between body and bubble and rust out again. Thanks. Ken

hi YF,

I just put plenty of sikaflex on the bubble lip, mainly to the inside edge so that it can ooze inward more so than outward.
if you get any out the front, run your finger along the joint in a rag with some prepsol and you should be sweet. along the top I basically screwed in to the vented panel and hid the screw heads with a 'd' shaped rubber I got from clarke rubber. i only done this incase I ever needed to get it back off with ease. other's screw the whole thing back on so it's completely at your disgression.

Thanks for that Spanner. That is kind of what I thought so I will give it a go. Cheers. Ken

Another method is weld it on without sealer then pour etch primer in from the top seam and let run thru, once dry pour in a slightly thinned run of underbody (bout $20 a tub, from proper paint shops) stone chip using a screwdriver to force feed it into the gaps. I done this on a car 7yrs ago and is still going strong
