Hi fella's, i have a 1600 kent with extractors 2 1/4 pipe and a 32/26 two stand carby. what can i do to the engine to get the most power out of what i have or could get, i dont want to spend heaps on it, because im going to be pulling it out in about a year and putting in a ba falcon straight six

id probably just pull it out, throw a nice cam in,

take the head off, get it ported, shaved etc,

start running it on premium and enjoy what you get..

more so pull the block apart get some new pistons bearings etc and some balancing work done.

it will never be fast unless you go ALL OUT.. with this, it will be entertaining, to say the least.

is this in a capri or what?

If you dont want to spend heaps on it, tune it and leave it! No point waisting money on upgrades. Put a lower diff in it and enjoy the quicker take offs.

Straight 6???[x2x] What car is the engine going into?

its a mk2 escort, yeah i think i will just leave it and save my money for the big conversion. yeah straight 6 it will be very tight and will need lots of modification but im good for it.

if you dont want to spend heaps id suggest doing the simple things. rebuild the carby and get it tunes for the engine (32/36 were 2lt carbys) then do simple things like over hauling the dizzy. replacing points and resetting the gap ect. will make it much nicer to drive at the very least.
like sterling said cam is one of the easiest things if the motor is out.

Sterling, there's a guy on boostcruising who recently put a 4.1L crossflow into a MK2 2door. He's from out near Ipswich, qld and plans to use it in burnout comps

You might want to check out the legality of doing such a swap before you go buying anything.

I was under the impression that in NSW, or was it QLD?, anywho, that you are only allowed a 10% or 20% increase in capacity. so 2.2/2.4L still no close to the 4L that your wanting.

Oh here we go. This is for QLD.

"Kerb Weight:
2.0 GL: 925 kg.
RS2000: 978 kg.
Ghia: 1003 kg.
Van: 908 kg."

Depending on what weight they take your vehicle as would depend what's legal.

Just food for thought.

in the Notes section "...should be based on the heaviest sedan version of the model...", so theroretically the Ghia at 1003kg x 4 = 4012cc......

Hang on, hasn't this question already popped up on a forum somewhere???

Cheers
