Just trying to get everything prepared before i get my dynotune and was considering a cam vernier, What are your thoughts on them? are they really worth it?

I was thinking about getting one of these verniers, anyone know if they are ok?

Do all cam vernier's do the same thing? like a cheap one like the kent one VS maybe a $200 one? any benefits to spending more with a vernier?

If you have a non standard cam they are worth every cent!

Some of the cheap ones are alloy and are often very soft so they arent very durable.

make sure you get one like in your first post as it allows much more accurate adjustments over the 'Peg' type one's.

I ended up buying a new piper vernier, now i've never changed a timing belt or vernier before and this will be my first. i know it's very important to now move the cam or crank so im wondering what's the best way to change it without messin anything up.

remove engine fan timing cover and whatever else is in the way, then the drive belt, and crank pulley,

remove the timing belt crank pulley cover, then release the bolts on the tensioner, you can now turn the cam gear approx one tooth anti clockwise, then slide the belt off.

to put it on, turn the cam pulley one tooth(ish) backwards again, and let it spring itself back to TDC properly, putting tension on that half of the timing belt, dont let go of the spanner that should be on the crank pulley either, then force the belt over the tensioner.

THE ONLY REAL MAIN RULE IS, TURN THE ENGINE OVER ATLEAST TWICE, BY HAND. TO DOUBLE CHECK THE TIMING didn't JUMP A TOOTH WHEN PUTTING ITSELF UNDER TENSION BEFORE CRANKING OVER WITH THE STARTER.

good luck!
