Have had a pinto head at the engine shop since before Xmas, just getting it set up for unleaded, bit of port work & a cam kit fitted to run with my webers. Anyway when they went to fit the cam bearings they pretty much fell through, the holes where about 15 thou oversize

The head was secondhand and had no bearings in it when I got it but George the engine guy didn't seem to think it had been mucked round with. He said he had seen early engines with the same problem with the crank bearings but never the head before.

Has anyone else came across this?
Cheers Steve

New one by me - haven't seen that problem in 20 odd years.

15 thou variance is huge;
Do you have the right cam bearings,
Are all three bearings/journals out,
Engine guy knows they are three different sizes - largest at rear of head,
What brand & part# do you have?
Can you mic up the bearing bores and advise - can compare to factory tolerences and see if it is the bearings or the head at fault....

Cheers

You're in a spot of bother. I came across this for the first time about 12 months ago on a cylinder head of a mate (Jules on this forum i think??)

There were bearings fitted to a hand full of Pinto heads that were over size in O/D (outside diameter). There are Ford part numbers for these bearings, but I don't have them handy.

Basically, they are VERY hard to get. They are no longer serviced by Ford. You're very unlucky to have struck one, this is only the second one I have seen.

Ok, I have dug up the part numbers for you,

The original part numbers are (these are standard I/D, .40mm o/size O/D)

70HM 6261 EA (front)
70HM 6262 EA (centre)
70HM 6263 EA (rear)

These supercede to
85HM 6261 EA (front)
85HM 6262 EA (centre)
85HM 6263 EA (rear)

I am 99% sure these are no longer service by Ford.
Good luck with the search

Thanks so much for your help Wozzah, it realy is amazing the wealth of information around. George thinks he will be able to make up some bronze ones, but this also gives me another option to chase up, thanks again
