OK, I get your point but just because it gets through a Transport SA inspection I doubt it means it's 100% legal. Regency will issue a document in reply to your mod request letter outlining what is required for your conversion. From memory I needed engineering approval for my conversion but things may have changed.

The braking side of things is a different issue. I think you're being naive to think modifying the braking system does not need engineering approval. You're relying on the guy inspection the car to not realise the braking system has not been tampered with. If the worst was to happen pleading ignorant is not a defence.

This is only my view but I personally don't want to go through the hard yards to do my conversion only to be defected (or worse) once it's finished because i did not follow due process.

Paul Dunstans right, mine did pass but it does not mean its engineered as 100% legal because of this. Although it does mean it passed all the required tests (with excellent results) to be deemed safe to be on the road - hence the defect was lifted.

I'd like to point out to everyone though that here in SA engineering your mods won't stop any defects coming your way. It's more somethingto have if the worst was to happen in a bad accident when the mods are to blame.

If you get pulled over the engineer can be sitting next to you and you can still be defected all that the officer has to do is assume something isn't exactly as per how the car was engineered then you have to go through the whole defect process.
It will be easier with less things to modify to pass however but engineering won't completely save you.
