Just looked at my engine, when they decked the block they sort of removed the engine no.And we have no idea, what to do as i have no rego papers. With the numbers on it, i'm up that well known street.I rang the engine builder, he didn't know he did it and cannot help.Any ideas

if the engine is original to the car, then it will almost definitely be the same as the chassis number which is located on the strut top panel. i dont understand how an engine number can disappear through decking a block tho,as its stamped well below the head gasket line[x2x]

The engine builder said, it looks like it has been decked before. And thats why the no is missing ?????

I have has a similar experience with a 1600 engine. Stupid place to stamp an engine number. Have a look on the compliance plate. It should be stamped there. If not, it is a safe bet that it will be the same as the ID number stamped on the RHS strut tower.
