As stated above, Would love to see some picture or descriptions from people with low Escorts (Prefrably with BW diffs) and 2.5+" exhausts.

Having trouble working out a path for the new exhaust on my escort. Car will be daily driven so i dont want major scrapage. Also i dont really want to cut into the floor to run an exhaust tunnel

Options i have so far are
- 2.5" over the diff - will be tight
- 3" over diff - if possible
- 2 x 2" over diff

Thanks in advance for the brilliant ideas

3" dump pipe and all the way to the rear, over diff, (yes Borg Warner) easy! My exhaust takes the original path "ish"...Anyone (exhaust dude) worth their salt will sort it, so do not sweat it mate, you can come out a winner with big grins!

Thanks for the reply mark,

Few questions

How tight is it up in the 'over diff' section
also does the exhaust ever scrape whilst driving
and does it sit real close to the floor and is the heat transmitted

cheers

I was going to suggest going out the side but then i remembered your in the fantastic 4 door club. Cause by vicroads laws you have to exit behind the last adjustable window, so on a 4 door it cant be done.

dont think the side pipe would be a good idea, even on a 2 door. good way to make urself known to the boys in blue. Car will be getting driven daily so i want it quiet and up out of the way

Mark also how loud is your car, on/off boost

As mark has stated over the diff 2.5" will fit easy with a B/W diff. will be tight but may also fit a 3".

With my RS2000 turbo 3" stainless exhaust system I built in the mid 1980's I ovaled the pipe from under the front seats to the rear. I made sure the exaust was tucked up very snuggly. All mandrel bent.

I had the BW Falcon V8 rear axle assembly which made it a bit more difficult (2.92:1, plate type limo, 31 spline, disc brakes).

The exhaust and the super low suspension were always a problem, and I was constantly aware of hitting things. The car passed the beer can test (ie a beer can would not roll underneath the car from side to side).

I decided it was simpler to lower my dads concrete driveway by 2 inches (the centre section between the concrete driveway runners). Obviously dad was not impressed, but at least i could get into the driveway without scraping).

thanks for the idea about ovaling the pipe for the rear section had not thought of that.

mmm if only all the roads ad speed bumps could have the 2inch cutout id be happy.

Also have been givin other ideas thought i would put them out there for others in the same boat.

- Chop side of trans tunnel out and make small exhast tunnel
- Modify boot floor to gain more room for U section over diff
- 3inch reduced to 2.5" - i am told it will not effect slow so much becuase by that piont the exhaust gas has cooled and contracted slightly.
- or run twim 2" or 2 1/4" side by side (xr6t) as this will then have similar area to a single 3inch.

feel free to point out any faults and continue to offer ideas

Cheers

Just run side pipes down the outside of the car 'hotrod style' like on the AC Cobras.

There, problem solved...now you can run twin 3in pipes for that whooooooopppppssssssssssshhhhhttttttttttt!!! factor. Free flow and no restrictions.

Glad to be of help. [:x)]

Craig.

Once you have burn the back of your legs getting out, the novelty wears off.
I think they call them laker pipes? when the exhaust runs down the sides like on the Cobra.

Back on topic, why not run the tailpipe under the diff?
Just get the body jacked up on a hoist, so the rear suspension is hanging down.
The exhaust shop should be able to work it out.
