ive just bought a NOS clock wiring harness for my clock in the console that was just there for looks before

can some one tell me if this is right

the four wires are easy to locate spots for the clock (two for lights and one power and one earth), but the other end seems to go onto the back of the lighter, there's two wire with a male and a female plug (both round) on each wire ,one for power and the other for the lights on the clock,

im guessing with a male and a female plug on each is so you can pull the two wires of the lighter and put them into the clocks harness then put the female plugs from the harness onto the lighter, to make a extra circuit out of one

plus the earth wire on the harness has a female plus male in one for the earth to go onto the harness and the harness onto the lighter

ive got it all working now but the lighter only works when you turn the key as usual, so this would be the same with the clock

the clock would need constant power, i cant see any where else the clock harness can go onto the car main harness

From memory the factory radio's had constant power, it's nearby so that could be the source? My manuals an early one and doesn't show the clock..........
Good luck with it............

What model escort do you have?
if it didnt originally come with a console mounted clock, theres a good chance the loom doesnt have a connection to accomodate it.you can take a seperate wire to the pos terminal of the battery or a less conspicuous feed to the constant pos feed to ignition switch.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Liam.

Ok got a diagram from another book, looks like it goes to the hazard switch, had a look at my plug and theres a spare spot on the back, it uses constant power and once again is close by???....

thanks for your feedback guys

its a 1600 body 1980 mark 2 van, with a 2ltr in it now but still has the 1600 main harness, just adapted to suit the 2ltr if that makes any difference

and i dont think my van did have a radio from factory as there's no evidents of any (speakers, wires) of ever been installed, and it did not have brackets for the console, so that not a option

what i done for now was run a wire from the X plug under the dash which has four wires which one has constant power, but i do want all the wiring to factory specs

can someone tell me what that X plug is for?, over the years i have had 7 mk 2 escort vans, all had this plug but never anything connected to it
