Hi Guys,

I am looking at a pair of "Green" tie rods to finish off my Capri Struts and have heard of guys having issues with the steering arms not being long enough and needing to get extenders when running high degrees of camber.

I thought a set of adjustable tie rods with spherical bearings may be an option - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-Mk2-Gp4-Ajustable-Track-Rod-Ends-/150363742115?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2302609fa3

Has anyone had any experience with these or am I getting worried over nothing?

Cheers,

Matt

You should only need tie rod extenders with adjustable lower arms. You certainly wont need them with standard arms and adjuatable tops.
Talk to me on Sunday, I know a guy who can machine out the Capri steering arms on the struts so you can use standard Escort tie rods ends. Save you money and hassle.

im running rack end extendering in mine currently and at first they were way too wide even with the bottom arms wound out to 3degrees camber, so some cutting was done.  but now seeing those rose jionted items they are a much better idea. just depends what taper they have, capri or mk2

They are the equivalent of the "Green" Tie Rods so for the capri struts.

I had exactly the same experience with the rack extenders. The MK1 has 2.5 degrees neg achieved through tops and adjustable arms but using the extenders meant about 4 degrees toe out was the minimum i could get.  It hs been running ever since without the extenders but there is only about 4 threads in each tie rod end!  It goes through my mind everytime im hanging onto it on high speed corners at Philip Island!

I might have to stick my head under your car on Sunday for a look

im currently running about 3+ degrees of camber, and being a late mk2 its got small tops, went to the aligners during the week and with said 4 threads in the tie rods was toeing in 65mm. but with the rack extenders it was miles to far out. so i got creative

PS, good luck getting ur head under the front of the car these days. lol

Gareth & Mish,

This is the exact scenario I'm trying to avoid.

Maybe we should look at getting some made up?  Shouldn't be too hard.

C u Sunday
