Hi all I'm new to the forum and escorts so forgive any common knowledge questions

I recently bought a mkii 79 coupe with a kent1600 it also came with a pinto, I want to set the car up for track days club events etc nothing to serious just for some fun but keep it reg"d

First question

Am I going to run into issues if I transplant the pinto with nsw pink slips, and when I need to reregister it in qld

Second question

Is there any merit to spending my budget 5k on the kent 1600 it seems that with a Bit of work they make fairly decent power while also being significantly lighter

I'm not to fussed about max power output I want something fun to drive that is going to be fairly easy to reregister state to state

Cheers

Hi Dave, good choice on buying an Escort!
Yes the Kent motor is lighter than the Pinto, however it takes some work to get it up to the power and more importantly torque that the Pinto does. You would be better off spending that money on the Pinto and getting even more power and torque. And torque is the key to going fast on a budget!!
Registration wise you won't have any trouble as the mk2 was released with a 2ltr anyway.

So the pinto i think would be your best bet. With your budget of 5k, id be spending money on suspension (new poly bushes throughout, uprated sway bar, springs and shocks). Id probably then just make sure your driving position is good, so a decent seat and steering wheel if even needed (you don't need to spend a fortune here). Good brake pads are a must as are decent tyres if the ones on it are not that crash hot..
Then pretty much spend the rest on the engine. A good tuned down draught webber, extractors and even a fast road cam. Perhaps a better clutch while your there.. Finally make sure you get someone to give it a good tune!
Parts don't have to be brand new either.. many of us have a heap of gear we're willing to sell/swap etc.. Search and you'll find some good stuff for little moneys!
And finally.. be sure to post a pic of the new steed!!

Cheers evoboda, cars got a fairly garish exterior at this point it's off to the panel beaters when I get back will post some befor n after picks once that's done, was a bit concerned that the transfer to a larger capacity may have raised eyebrows at the RTA when i went to transfer state rego if the brake/suspension packages that came out when new were different from the 1.6 to the 2.0..

Welcome to the forum,

There is a wealth of knowledge here so don't be frightened to ask questions.

If you are going to stick in the 2ltr (which you should) you'll also need to use the 2ltr front struts and brakes as they are bigger than the 1.6ltr ones (Struts are anyway) for compliance i believe.

Pics are good!!

Good luck

Cheers Matt, yer everyone is saying go for the pinto but Im still kind of romanced by the idea of getting my car under 900kgs. I might just get the suspension and paint sorted and have a bit more time to think about it..

Been a long time since I've posted, anyway just thought I'd chuck a couple of pictures up cars almost finished although after reading my first post it has strayed somewhat from my original plan

Hey mate,

Looks good. when does a project not stray from the original plan? :)
Going by the ally head and roller rockers id say you have gone a bit over original budget?  i know the feeling if so?

Howdy, thanks mate yer original budget was left by the wayside many months ago

1840cc 711m, twin 45's, roller rockers, alloy head, all steel bottom end it's on the dyno today so will have to wait and see for results, builder says he's confident of around mid 180hp
