Hi Guys,

I am just finishing off my Front Volvo Caliper & rear R31 Disk Brake conversions and am starting to think about pads.

I plan to use either a volvo 240 or 120Y M/Cylinder and have plans to make the car a weekend track event car but also the odd drive around town on club plates so I am not too concerned about noises and dust build up etc...

I have coilovers, 285lb spings 15" rims and reverse eye Kings on the back with Bilsteins.

Can any / everyone post what they are using or what they have tried over the years that have worked well or crap?

I am thinking of using the EBC Green stuffs for front and rear.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Got a quote from Demon Tweeks in the UK for $126 GBP to have EBC Green pads sent here.

This is for the Volvo fronts and R31 rears.

Works out to be about $191 AUD so a lot cheaper than buying here.

I also am looking at the US but they don't seem to have the R31 pads.

Cheers

the critical thing here is what master cylinders you are going to use, you can have the best brake pads in the world but they are useless if you cant get the right pressure / bias from front to rear

my suggestions are -

install a pedal box

visit Race Brakes or somewhere similar that can test the brake performance from front to rear

I use QFM pads & have for years, my point is not about wether which pad is better than the other but with a pedal box I know that the bias is right & that the calipers are WORKING as they should

matt look at vr commodore rear pads there exactly the same as the r31 they just dont have the little weld on the back to locate the slot in the piston. just get some commodore ones and put a tack weld on the back and your all set. Also straight away you can get pads like bendix ultimate and stuff like that (the commodore pad is DB1086)

I plan to use either the Datsun 120Y or the Volvo 240 m/c fitted direct to the Firewall.

I would love a pedal box but it'll have to wait till further down the track.

The volvo m/c appeals as it, obviously, suits the front calipers and as it is a stepped design the rear circuit uses the same size as the r31 m/cylinder.

I suppose like everything it's best just to get it all together and then go from there.

I have heard good things about the QFM pads though.

Cheers

I have emailed Howard at Race Brakes in Melbourne and he suggested their own brand with rb74 front c2 for rear at $180 each set.

Has anyone used their pads before and give feedback?

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt,

Howard really knows his stuff, so if you have advised what you are going to use the car for I would suggest that the RB74 & C2 are an excellent choice.

I have used the RB74 in rally cars without any issues.

Thanks
Craig
