You just need to find an ex-painter or someone willing to do cashies.

My mate who did the top coats on my blue Escort quit the trade and never got that sort of cash but for the right job he'd help out and wouldn't ask stupid money. Obviously no help to you as Im in SA but they're about. You've just got to make it worth their time.

Rhys

PS. There is alot of people who would get out of bed for less than $30/hr

For $30 per hour I would be skipping to work with a smile on my face.

if im doing mechanical cashie work, i look to charge atleast $50 an hr. if you go to a licenced mechanic, they are going to charge you atleast $90 here in Perth. the people who charge less than this generally work slower so ends up costing you the same. the Holden dealership i was at, at the time i left, were charging $125+ per hour. when someone gets me to do a cashie, they're not paying me sick leave, they're not paying my tool allowance, they're not paying super annuation, and generally, they are taking part of my weekend/weeknights away.

some advice for you tho lincoln, spray painters, as an industry, seem very slow and unreliable. best bet is to get quote on doing the specific job, and a time frame. you pay them the amount they quoted if they get it done within the timeframe they set. otherwise price starts to drop. mates XY has been in primer for 4-5 months, from what was supposed to be a 6 week paint job.

that Holden dealer may have been charging $125+, but how much did you actually see? [dont have to answer this]

my mate is a supervisor[qualified fitter] at a power station, and at one site he was working he was being charged out at $250+ per hour, but only got paid about $40 an hour.
I think factoring not being paid super/leave/allowances is a little bit bullshiit.
the way i see it is that a cash job is just icing on a cake.. if you wanna complain about taking up your spare time, dont do it. if you want extra cash, tax free, do it, but dont expect to be paid in gold bars.

i had some panel work done to my escort a few years ago by a backyarder, he charged $25 an hour, charged me for 10hrs, and he started the job at 10pm! he may have only taken 5hrs to do it, but for $250 including materials i was amazed.fantastic work too! need to find him again though.
