I've just pulled the standard carby and manifold off the 1600 in my Mk1 esky and am getting ready to fit a 32/36 weber.

Looking at the inlet manifold I just realised theres no hole where the water jacket is on the head. The manifold still has the fitting for heater hose etc so what the .... am I missing here?? [x2x]

Hi it could be all blocked up i made my water hole in the manifold a bit bigger in the hope it improved the heater---

Thanks for the reply. I thought that too so I gave it a tap with a punch but it looks to be solid alloy under the surface corrosion. [x2x]

can you put a piccy up, so we can look?

Ok.

So it looks like it's been fitted like this before. Perhaps thats why it has that T piece on the hose off the bottom of the manifold?

What if I were to by pass the manifold altogether? I can see why you may want warm coolant running through your inlet manifold in cold climates but I'd rather have cool, dense fuel going into my engine. [:p]

I'd say its been on a formula ford

Hmmm, thanks Mal.

So is my idea of bypassing the manifold altogether likely to cause any problems? Are you online Phil, any thoughts please?

Hi Cam,

The coolant through the inlet manifold is there to help atomisation of the fuel. Its mainly to assist in driveability and to make for a nicer running engine. Its not the most ideal for outright performance applications. I cant see a problem bypassing the manifold. Cooler inlet charge is desirable as long as the fuel in it is atomised adequately[;^)]

Thanks Phil. I've just been in the shed scratching my head a bit and the other problem is retaining the heater. I'm not sure if running the "T" piece off the hose from the water pump will give effective circulation?

Maybe I should just mark it using the gasket and drill it out!

Hi mud how you get on if i may ask -- if you drill a small hole say 1/4 inch UNC you can them tap it and block it up with a brass rod bung if its needed
