If that number matches the number on the compliance plate then your car is genuine, just with an exchanged engine, commonly referred to as a non matching numbers genuine v6.

The number on passenger side isn't a date but a build number Ford used at the build plant. Know idea what it means. It's probably 1471 on your car. Keith

On my old GT/V6 the numbers on the passengers side read 429, which clearly has nothing to do with a date, more than likely some factory code for something!

Terry can you say which Slam panel this car came with? I would say just when it changed and the later type? Just curious

I no longer have this GT/V6 so I can't confirm the slam panel Wiggy, though from memory it looks the same. I sold it to a guy in Sydney a few years back now.

Dad never said it's the original engine. My car has the usual ck17Lp2382

So, looking at your recent photo of the drivers side strut tower, your Chassis Number is CK17LP23832P and the original engine would have been the same. More than likely swapped out with the reconditioned one that you now have, ie. CK17ME34040P.

Well, the LP codes in the Chassis number definitely indicate that your Capri was assembled in 1971, December.

Den your car was made before It's build date I will agree to that. It's however a special Capri as all MK1 Capris are especially if it survived near on 50 years. The motor as it is is nothing special except it has survived the same 50 years without being scrapped. If you want a truly special motor the price tag in 2019 is excessive but you can pay to have what ever you want done at 3 times the price of most other motors.
Any performance work you do will reduce the longevity of the motor.
Your head's aren't ported proffesionally but that could be done and the block is standard. It's special because it's a Capri but no more special than all of our cars of people trying to help. If you want to talk to John McCallum in Qld he is the Guru of Essex motors and has been for some time he can give you that special motor you long for. Yours is just standard which in my opinion is the best. Keith

Thank you that information, no no changes to the engine, but in saying that it's not about the money. When the time comes to reasemble the engine he's happy to have it transported anywhere. This engine I feel has a story to tell. My mother and I are going to make further enquiries. Thanks again
