Jamie you should have come around earlier, to dad it's just another ford, he's had them all. You will need to come past another day. I have a number of stamped items, that may give me a better idea who this engine may have belonged to in the past.

My brother painted these today at work, he said this was the original colour as well as being on the Armstrong shock absorbers. Is this true.

Should be black. As Mr Ford said you can have any colour you like as long as it's black. They look good though.

I’m getting a few things together to show you guys, like parts books, before I come back around. I think your Dad mentioned he might need a couple of parts at some stage, which I’m happy to help out with. There’s also plenty of knowledge, experience, and sources of parts from the members of this forum (probably hundreds of years if you added it all up).

Cheers
Jamie

Also what month was your V6 made. I've had two 71 V6 cars and during the year they changed the front slam panel and hood lock down mechanism. One of mine was 7/71 with the new style the other 5/71 with older style( no visible spring) all 70 and before had the older type which I think worked better.

There were other parts painted the same. I'll find out which parts.

Where does the body say 1/4/71? The slam is correct for anything after 6/71.

Den,
You quoted your Chassis number as being CK17LP2382, which is actually missing one number from the last 4 digits, that being the serial number which is always 5 numbers and possibly a P at the end, which indicates that the engine is a 6 cylinder of the V6 variety. Anyway, the L=1971 and the P=December. So, that's when the Capri came down the assembly line.

Where are you getting actual dates from on the car (body), never heard of that before, unless they're coming from paperwork from either the original dealer or from Ford themselves?

Attached is my July, 1971 GT/V6 Vehicle Identification Plate for reference. Your Capri should have one of these and as previously suggested, perhaps you should put a photo of it up to let us know what it is we're all actually talking about.
Cheers, Terry

Terry can you say which Slam panel this car came with? I would say just when it changed and the later type? Just curious
