Myself and dad have no dought it's a genuine V6 gt, he has a mountain of paperwork work. It was purchased from an older Englishman. He told Dad
that engine was a special. The car was bought because it was genuine. Car number 2383. I wish to learn more about which car all its engine and part came from. Both my parents have said. Not to ever trade it in. It will be past on to my brother.

Den, ALL V6's assembled in Australia were genuine GTs. These are identified by the Chassis code starting with CK17K, CK17L or CK17M. The engine may be 'special' because it was bored out 60 thou, meaning that it's a 3.1 litre engine, with out pulling the engine apart, you will never know. It is NOT one of the last 11 that had the 'D' port heads! Where are you getting the 2383 number from as it means nothing just by itself.  IF the chassis number stamped in the engine bay, on the RH top suspension or front slam panel, does not match the engine number, then that means that the engine came from another Capri, either as a reconditioned unit or as a swap at some time in it's life. You cannot identify parts from cars by the part numbers except for the actual engine number, eg. 34040P. Hope this helps, Terry

Thanks, would you know if gt badges are numbered in reference to engine or year made. For instance mine are
Ar70eb_t 291a36_a. 1 oz315 thanks.
Reeni

The GT badges are not numbered with any reference to the engine or year made. The correct part number for the Capri V6 GT badge is JH 70 291B62 A. The part number that you have quoted is more than likely the one for the XY Falcon GT, which is very similar to the Capri one, but different. Terry

The number quoted here should be either 11 or 12 characters, eg. CK17LP12345P, where the P can also be missing.

Den. Sorry but every vehicle is known by it's body and chassis number regarding a V6 Capri. Back then they did not have a Vin number like newer cars. You need to show a simple engine bay pic and a pic of your engine bay tag to give all who are trying help some sort of info. You can take pics of parts as much as you like but all Capris have them. Pm to who ever you chose where all happy to assist. Or post the pics and everyone can help? Please!!

I’ve inspected this car and it’s engine (and parts) a couple of weeks ago. Dennis was kind enough to invite me around and show me through everything, and is doing a great job with the rebuild (he’s fussier than I am!). I’m looking forward to seeing it all done for sure.

The car is a genuine V6 GT. The engine is not the original for the car, and not a later D port engine. All parts/components are standard V6, including suspension and brakes etc., except for one or two upgrades like a seat belt. That said, it’s a very good one local owner car that has been well cared for and maintained. I certainly wish I’d found it; it was somewhere between 5-6km from me as the crow flies and I’ve likely driven past it hundreds of times not knowing it was there!

Reeni is very lucky to be getting this car when it’s finished. I got my first Capri when I was 18 - a 1970 1600 Deluxe manual painted red (originally True Blue) with interior retrimmed in red Commodore velour (ah, the 80’s). I still have it and won’t ever sell it because it’s special to me.

Cheers
Jamie
