Very informative and appreciated Terry.

Yes Terry, I agree: Book should be unique to our Aussie Capri Mk1. The author would want to know how many are still "alive", and of those, how many owners would  buy a copy to make production feasible ?

Thanks for the extra "cords" to the Capri Tapestry ............... just love it

The Dport heads can be identified on car easily without the inlet manifold. The Dport heads above the center exhaust port have an oval with Ford cast in. The oval port has similar cast stamp on the first exhaust port but it's rectangular and says FOMOCO.

Bernie, whilst I like your idea, I don't think I've ever owned or read a book that had numbers of any cars still 'alive', let alone a particular model like the Capri. In Australia, with 6 States and 2 Territories, it would be impossible to get this type of information, due to privacy laws and of course, just the normal bureaucratic BS within these government departments!

This type of thing has been done by someone in an Australian-based Triumph Car Club (Stag owner).
Some states were more receptive than others to the idea of providing limited vehicle details. Some state authorities required FOI type formal requests with the attendant fees to gain this information.
Of the approx 25000 Stags produced by the UK-based manufacturer, the local register has around 1500 entries, with approx 400 having known ownership and identity match.   I'm sure there a vehicles on this list that have double entries, which are being resolved.
The person doing this task is currently matching Owner to Vehicle (rego and/or VIN).   With information requests to the Australian Triumph clubs with a simple details request form,  gathering event photos to seed a register entry, and including the vehicles identified by the state authorities, he has achieved what might seem an impossible goal.
He has been doing this task for approx 12 months.

So it is possible, just takes a lot of legwork and some dealings with officialdom.

Some people like myself wouldn't want that information known. Especially in today's age with big brother watching all the time. I see no point knowing how many are left if you don't know the condition the car is in. I have three derelict cars that the register might pick up but they will never get back on the road. A book about all Aussie Capris I'm all for as they are very different to those built overseas (some good points and other bad points).
Also who holds the register with all the secret info? On my 2c!

The last thing I would want to do is to start enquiring to all Road Transport depts, Australia-wide, hunting for details of existing Capri's still on their databases! IF, someone else wants to try, by all means, have a go, but I really don't see why and for what benefit. As Wiggy333 states he wouldn't want that information known, hence my privacy laws comment above.

As far as a book goes, I'd be interested in that idea but .... what a mammoth task, though it is not an impossible one! What would the bones of the book be, ie. proposed Chapters perhaps? Any idea's? I have a few of my own.

To my knowledge there is NO register of Capri's anywhere in the country, though it has been mooted once or twice on this forum. Perhaps the best we have are the lists of all entrants who attended Capriciation 2009 in Wagga Wagga and Capriciation 2019 in Albury last April.

A very NICE register indeed however, I'm sure that with all those vehicle details and the owner information, not to mention the actual chassis and engine number, it's too much information to be just let loose on the internet! And, I'm still not sure why we need a register at all, like Wiggy333 said.

After scratching my brain I now do recall that some years ago, a Brisbane couple used to run a Capri Owners Register, Australia, which I think was run more like a Club, with a regular newsletter, rather than a vehicle register.

Anyway, that's my two bobs worth! Terry
