Hi everyone.

We're putting back together our Mk2 1976 panel van here, and have most of the electrics working nicely.
The indicators however are giving us some grief. All the indicator lights flash when we hit the hazard switch, so we know its not a globe or earth problem there, the stalk works fine in another working car, and the same stalk works fine with the horn and hi-beams. The indicators on their own show no love...

I've taken the hazard switch off, bridged connection points 1 and 2, and can then get the indicators working fine from the stalk, but then again, when the switch is replaced, the indicator stalk does nothing.

All the electrical diagrams we have aren't much help as none of the wire colours seem to match. (anyone got a PDF of the correct one?)

Any ideas out there? Anything appreciated.  Its the last electrical item to get going, then the interior can be finished...

cheers, Alex

Hi Alex,

I have a tech manual here that does actually have differing wiring diagrams, depending on how late the car is. I can PDF and send them to you if you like?, PM me your email address.

In the meantime, have you checked the indicator relay, and / or fuses?. When you turn one of the indicators on, do you hear the indicator relay working?. If not, perhaps grab the relay out of the other car and test that?.

by relay, do you mean the signal flasher can? We've checked this and know it works because the indicators go on the hazard switch, and if you bridge the connection on the plug from the hazard switch.
On the interior loom, there is 2 more white terminals, and i'm not shire what they are for... one is a small closely spaced white female end with three spade terminals, the other fits a regular relay (4 spade terminals) with the middle 5th terminal missing.

Any clues?

what color are the wires that you are trying to identify?.

From what I can see from the wiring diagram., the hazards and the indicators do actually use the same flasher relay (yep - flasher can).

Does your wiring diagram look anything like this?.

no, mine is quite different.  I'm using the Gregorys books.
The bulk of the wires I'm looking at are pale blues and greens.
Could you send me the PDF of those diagrams?
that would be most helpful!

no probs.

I don't have a scanner big enough at home. but the one at work should be right to do it all as one PDF.

Ill post it around lunchtime tomorrow.

Try to Burn the file to a dvd/cd and send that snail mail,
resident experts are out today, i'll get their thoughts later today, and post.
looks like an illustrator job to me, not photoshop.
the present file size is probably Gigabytes, it's just tooo big
cheers Geoff
you could try to scan an a4 section, if you can print it, others can too.

Hi Geoff.

The file size is 2.5 meg, so not big at all. The issue is that the image is 7780 X 5320 pixels, and most photo storage sites reduce the resolution (photobucket, class-ford etc).......

Really all I need is a site that I can upload the image to that doesn't resize it automatically. I can then post a link to that. I could host it on my own web server, but data usage is an issue for me :(.

Anyone know of a website that doesn't resize uploaded images?.

Dave
