As also mentioned, there is a geometry mismatch between the Escort clutch pedal and Toyota clutch mechanism as it's difficult to get the clutch to disengage completely when the pedal is pushed to the floor. Apparently the thrust bearing travel required is greater than the stroke of the clutch pedal. I'm unsure if this has been rectified in their current kit but talking to a clutch specialist this can usually be engineered out when setting it up.

Paul, I have been running a celica 5spd with a dellow conversion in my Escort since the mid 90's. I bought the kit, installed it and it worked. No clutch problems at all as it uses the original Escort pressure plate, clutch fork, thrust bearing and a modified diameter (Celica splined) clutch plate.

Rob, the bellhousing in the ebay link doesn't look right to me. Clutch fork and starter motor are on the wrong side and the bellhousing doesn't look right.

Hi Craig
Thanks for that info. When I purchased the donor vehicle I found it very difficult to change gears and when disassembled the clutch plate was very worn. I assumed it was not adjusted correctly and when I spoke to a clutch specialist he explained the problem but I'm yet to reinstall and see for myself. I hope it's one less thing to worry about - thanks!

Hi guys. I am in the same boat. I have a celica steel cased 5 sp to go behind a 1600 kent. I bought a bellhousing out of the trading post nearly 10 years ago and it sat in the bushes out the front for 7 years. The clutch fork is rusted but the bellhousing is fine. I want to get this project going soon, so I will need some help. Should I just ring dellow?

Just put a type 9 behind my crossflow 1600. Bloody easy really used standard 1600 bellhousing, clutch and release bearing, clutch cable, gearbox mount, just need longer speedo cable, cut top of tunnel and rotate by 180 degrees (moves hole @3 inches back)
I bought some blocks for the gearbox mount from the uk but they didnt fit so made my own.
Single piece prop i have a mk2 tina one fits fine.

I found it easy as i put the engine and box together then put the lot in the car.
There are better boxes than the type 9 but if you can get one at the right price you dont need many more bits.
