  • Wilwood brake kit - too close to steering arm?

Hi Guys, I've just fitted a 260mm vented Wilwood Midilite Brake kit.  These are the commonly sold kits from the UK from places like Burton etc. The new thicker disc sits very close to the steering rod end, in fact the rubber boot is juuust touching the disc.  Has anyone else fitted this kit and had similar problems?  It's in a Mk1 but I believe the previous owner installed mk2 steering rack. Any suggestions appreciated!

Should fit straight up but I had a problem like that with my MK2 Cortina struts on the Anglia and I had to machine a little bit from the hubs just to give a safe clearance.

This is a major criticism I have of a lot of brake kits out there for the Escorts and is why I went down the road of creating an alternative option with the RX7 calipers and Pug 283mm rotor.
Even the Hi Spec kits are VERY close (1-2mm) to the steering arm so I will probably use an alsternative disc to provide at least 5mm clearance.
I often wonder why such basic engineering principles (ample clearance) are ignored when producing replacement items such as this and I doubt my engineer would let it go.
That being said, I would assume the Capri strut with the seperate steering arm would be the intended recipient of these kits although they do "fit" the Escort strut.

This was even an issue with the Capri 2.8 disc and M16 calliper spacers - so Paul's comment re: Capri strut and arms being the "fix" is probably right.
 
Second vote here for the Rx7 callipers. They have worked faultlessly for me for many years under high temp conditions (DS3000 pads) and you can pick a disc that has good steering arm clearance (I use BMW 5 series).

I thought the UK guys only got the capri/rs struts, so you could space the steering arm out?
And I am sure I have rear somewhere here that brand new tie rods have smalller dust boots?
