i have pulled the 1500 from the Anglia apart and one piston has a hole and it needs a rebore. there is probably a lot of other thngs that need doing that i just dont know about at the moment. as such, it could get a bit costly to rebuild the 1500 right now as the car is being done on a budget.

so, how hard is it to drop a 1600 crossflow in it? what needs to be done to allow this? cross member? engine mounts? wiring? exhaust? i dont think it would be too costly to get a good running 1600, but dont want to spend squillions on the car just yet.

Gerard,

I am doing the same conversion myself, wiring won't be an issue unless you change to an alternator.

You will need to work out a throttle cable (get rid of the rod). If you stick with the orginal Anglia gearbox you may need a larger slave cylinder (Mexico slave cylinder I believe - not sure if they are available in OZ) to work the heavier clutch that will be required.

If the block is a 711M you will need to modify engine mounts, if it is an older crossflow out of a Capri or Cortina (681 block) then it will fit the original mounts.

The exhaust shouldn't be an issue.

Check out 105speed.com for all Anglia info.

Steve.

Thanks very much Steve. Looks like I will go down the 1600 route.

I'm doing the same coversion and adding Cortina gearbox. You can buy new engine mounts from Milton in the UK which get you over the extra width of the 711M block. 105speed sell a kit to adapt the Cortina box and enables retention of the Anglia clutch assesmbly. I've just bought a Milton peddle box, which overcomes the accelerator problems and permits the use of sidedraught carbies (if you want to go there). If you are on a tight budget you'll have to become investive.
