Well heres my very first post on this great site. I wish the internet was around when I had my Escorts... Anyway great work 2lt_Scort, I've just read this whole thread and you've done well. Have you had your dizzy regraphed to suit your cam? That will help you get more timing down low so it doesn't feel as boggy down low although with the much shorter runners, you will always have this issue. A regraph will help this a bit anyway. Something that I remember when I put ram tubes on my old MK2 was the sheer lack of room between them and the inner guard. Perhaps you could take your custom inlet back and get them to angle your set up a few degrees so you can fit a custom airbox a with a more room to play with?

Your car makes me want to go and buy the old 4 door Ghia down the road. You have a very tough looking car both outside and under the bonnet!!

PS. Where would I be able to get the fibreglass bubble from? Great work!!

Banarcus, thanks for the comments glad to hear you got through all the thread. The dizzy is a stocko Sierra EFI dizzy which is locked. The fibreglass bubble is from RaceTune in Perth. Now go down the road and buy that Escort

I'm assuming you bought the EMS unit so I'm guessing you'll eventually go without the distributor and go coil packs? At least that way it gives you the best flexibility regarding ignition timing wich may help as mentioned.

As far as fuel consuption goes, I don't really worry about it when driving this car. If you mean consumption on new setup vs old setup then I'm yet to tell as I've only done around 150-200km and haven't been gauging it. Once I've ironed out all the little issues I'll do a full tank test.

Yep went with EMS, can go coil packs in future but no plans to yet. It's all time and money. My aim is to finish it as it stands and get some km's out of it and to also do a few suspension changes.

Bit of a minor update on this.

I'm binning the PCV and using a fitting that comes straight out of the block into a catch can. So I removed the t/bs and manifold to make access easy and while I had the manifold off I put fitted it to another motor to see how good the flow through to the ports is. Not too good really....so instead of forking out for another custom manifold I thought I'd modify a twin weber manifold to see how it went.

This idea is probably a bit more 'agricultural' but I'm going to give it a go and see what happpens. Will get it dyno tuned in a few more weeks once i fix/change a few other things.

Cool, yeah it will definately be interesting to see what the dyno has to say.. the right manifold can make a decent difference.

Regarding the binning of the PCV / flame trap.. Have you got a fitting to put into the block as yet ? I have just bought a fitting from ebay uk, it costed me about $22 landed here, which I thought was reasonable considering that it's easy.

Yes dyno will be interesting. I'm trying a different tuner this time though so it's not going to be perfect comparison. I'm confident theres more gains to be had through fine tuning of ignition side of things.

The block fitting was made up for me by a mates Dad, just a brass bung machined to fit the block. Here's a pic.

Dave, your old motor is still sitting on engine stand. I just bought myself a dial indicator gauge to dial in cam properly and get valve/piston clearance measurements on it. I've lost enthusiasm on it, but its coming along slowly. Could be a back up for this Escort one day.
