can anyone tell me what the approx weight of a dry essex engine block is ? without all the fruit on it. I am getting one sent from Melbourne and they wanted to know the approx weight - i said about 30kg - does this sound about right ? for the dimensions i put 50cm x 50cm x 50cm on a pallet. The quote i got seems very cheap tho, so thought i would double check before hitting the go button

I just dropped off a bare 1600 block to the machinists, and it would be around 30kgs I reckon. A V6 block would be 50-60kgs easy, they are a heavy beasty. I have a bare one in the shed and it took two of us to put it there.

Cheers

Just out of interest the reason why I think the V6 blocks is so dam heavy is because it was designed by Ford to be both petrol and diesel...... Does anyone know what they weigh complete? Just wondering....
