Finally started by new engine yesterday but had the usual inlet manifold leak so thought I would put a post up to remind everyone about this common problem.

It all looked good when I added the coolant but before starting we checked the dipstick level and then pressurised the cooling system to 13psi. We lost pressure and the oil level rose so we knew we now had water leaking inside. Easy fixed, took the manifold off, put new gasket and more sealant, and tightened down to 25 ft.pound (recommneded is 15 but it was ok). Re-checked with another pressure test that was fine.

We then jacked the car up under passenger side and left it for 30 mins. Since the water ends up under the oil we just removed the sump plug and drained it out. Topped up the oil, double checked with another pressure test and started her up.

If we had of just started without the pressure test we would have thrown water oll through the engine. This way the problem was easy fixed and no damage done.

Was my first drive in around 12 months, awesome fun!

Congrats on getting it going gtv6. Thanks for the heads up on the manifold. I too have been concerned about this and assembled the inlet manifold to the engine with appropriate sealant used, thankfully no problems so far. Because of the V design one can never be sure how it all mates up.

I use a few headless bolts to hold the gasket still then slide the manifold over the top, replace the headless ones with correct ones as you go.

yes that's what I do also, one in each corner. The book says to tension them from outside working in which seems back to front to me but I guess there must be a reason for doing it this way.
