i had my old 2 door with shannons. when it burnt down they sent a towtruck free of charge, took it their inspection place and then returned it to me after assessment free of charge. absolutely no hassle at all.
i recommend them

I tried to get a quote from NRMA vintage but they said I couldn't unless I had a "normal" daily driver. Which I don't, my stable is all specialist. When I told the NRMA I didn't have a normal daily driver they said "How do you get to work?". Amazing.....thought the NRMA had heard of public transport....

So, I'm with Shannons, and happy. They have three levels of usage, everyday, infrequent and very infrequent. These two latter ones are quite reasonable and they understand that I catch the bus to work every day.

Rant over!

I had a look at NRMA which is SGIC in SA, they didn't even have Escort listed so they are also a no go. So far the only place that I can do it is AAMI.

Scott,

Get on the phone as SGIC do list Escorts. You need to keep ringing round till you get a quote your happy with. Make sure the policies finer details suit your needs.
Eg, Getting the wreck back would be a priority for most.

RAA does discount for members also.

AAMI drivers course only gives 5% discount from memory ( I did it back when I was 18 or so, doesn't really count for much)
Best to just get into full comp and work on getting a decent rating and your premiums will start to drop.

So far I can't fault Shannons, I've been with them since I was about 20 so I don't know why they won't insure you? Possibly changed their policies since then???

I'm an RAA member so why I can't go through is stupid
The AAMI discount is 10% and they do allow for you to have the car if its a write off. It turns out I can get insured for around $700-$750. Dunno how I got that $1400

Shannons must have changed their policies, I know my brother couldn't insure his 351V8 XW Falcon when he was under 25 with them.

According to the AAMI online quote, my driving history is Gold Rating 1. So I think I'm already pretty right in that respect.

$700 is a good deal! To think when I was 18 NRMA wanted to charge me $3600pa for my RS that I paid $7000 for.

one of our cars ( VK SS ) is with QBE as they were the only company that would cover it for what i wanted, were a reasonable price and they do a "limited use policy" for "special" cars. but.... our other car ( 06 Subaru XT Foz ) is with another insurer as in it's case, QBE was a fair bit more expensive and had a lower vehicle value.

keep shopping around. don't be tied to any in particular as each instance will be different. in our case, even though we have 4 policies with QBE, they didn't suit our last car. insurance is a hard one as all companies are different and ask/expect different things.
