Pretty much, but more on and off than a dimmer.

To make all the switches line up when this is on I pulled mine appart and reversed the back. So its off position is now on. Saves turning it on and off with your lights. Another option is to leave the switch alone and just short out the wires, but then you cant turn them off.

Thanks for the info but what a weird idea being able to turn off your dash lights, JR can you refirb that switch ??

Just on another topic spotlights for a 1972 V6 Gt Capri are they the Lucas Square 8 units & are they hard to find, I have seen a few sets on Evilbay in the UK.

Yeah that's why I rearranged the switch. Only reason I can think of to turn them off is when you just want to leave your parking lights on, but who does that these days - must have been a 70's thing.

Indeed it was a seventies thing. Big shopping centre carparks were only just starting to appear most parking was done in narrow dimly lit streets so to be seen when parked by other drivers parking lights were left on. No need for interior lights in this situation hence a switch to turn them off.
The lucas lights were a fitment on some english cars. Ours look different and are the wipac brand I think.

It's funny my 1966 Xp Falcon & a mates 1957 Fairlane 500 has a dimmer switch yet in the 70's they decide to go backwards go figure.

I assumed that the lucas units wouild be the ones as they were used on a lot of Mustangs etc. Ok so are the Wipac units made of unobtainium or can they be sourced locally.

Good idea reversing the switch might be doing the same thing.
