I was just wondering why you chose to fit something different rather than repair the originals. Are the replacements better/cheaper?

Steve the alternator was rebuilt sometime ago by Deerings & when I have asked auto sparkies about rebuilding the Lucas unit they tell dont bother as they were generally too expensive to fix, a couple had a saying about Lucas alternators 'Prince of Darkness" so with that I figured if I could get a new replacement that was going to sort the issue out then was was the way to go plus 3 year warranty on new unit & it looks exactly the same just does not have Lucas on the black plastic rear cover.
The original starter is huge & is pretty tired so I was thinking a smaller more powerfull reduction starter would be a better solution than rebuilding the original & I am not sure but most likely simular $$$ to fix the old unit. I think if my wifes Capri was going to be concourse type of car then it would be worth the effort to retain all the originality but it is not, if the new replacement parts make it more reliable then it's a good move but only time will tell if thats is the case.
