I need to replace my mufflers on my V6. Problem is what type do I go with? The ones I have are about 20 years old, not sure what brand. Current ones are a bit loud for me and they get the dreaded drum in them at about 100 kph. So its a stock V6, pacemaker headers, 5 speed  with twin exhaust system. Any suggestions, recommendations for recent fitments ?? Still want the classic V6 sound but don't want to wear ear plugs.

Your current mufflers may be "hot-dogs" or other similar un-restricted mufflers where the gases run straight thru un-impeded by baffles.  I have them in mine, and yes, at 100 up, they get loud. I dont get "drumming" which may be due to the dual pipes become a single system at the half way point along its length.  My system is 2 inch.
What size is your "all the way twin system" ?  Do you have 1 or 2 mufflers on each side ?

I have triple chamber mufflers and the largest hot dogs they could squeeze in next to the spare tyre well.  It worked well on my old car but when I upgraded to 2in system with pacemakers its still a bit louder than I would like.  I am now thinking about going to original setup with 3 mufflers and single passenger side outlet, thinking that the 2in system will compensate for the additional restriction.  There was a post a couple of years back where someone here setup like that, cant remember if they ever posted about noise levels.

twin separate pipes (no cross over). Reasonable size oval muffler in usual place, preceded by 14in? hotdogs. Wife could no longer here me coming 3 blocks away (when no hotdogs), but didn't spin as freely.  Pleasure to drive on the freeway, with only wind noise.  
Car now gone , so unable to measure anything.

I have the same set up as accapmad, but I don't have the hotdogs fitted. The old mate at the muffler shop said hotdogs take out the drumming. So it down for some some new mufflers, hotdogs.

Yes. I had a very unpleasant and noisy 300km highway trip (and then back again).  The hotdogs made a huge difference.  The rusty system that came with another car was two small hotdogs per side, no cross pipe for scavenging. 
Trade Off: Performance Vs Usability

If I did it again, I'd go small hotdog + normal muffler each side, and add a crossover.
I'm mindful that the standard system had two normal size mufflers under rear floor, and a third 2-In-1-Out just behind the bumper.

I used Luke on mine, with the crossover in balance pipe, which I believe is important to "balance" the system, wound up with a lovely burble, as opposed to cackle..
