We have found our project now the fun begins. It has rust in a lot of the usual places, some have been covered with fibreglass. I will be starting on the floors taking out some glass and lifting the tar and seeing whats under.

Looks like a good base to work on, what are your plans for it?

Unsure at the moment, I am going to repair the floors and firewall first. Found rust under the tar and also fibreglass. I would like to change the rear doors so after ideas on that also the wheels rub so need to flare the gaurds a bit. In the meantime I am searching the net to see what works and what doesnt.

if your handy with a hammer, welder and steel, weld the rear doors together and have one lift up door or a top and bottom fold out doors

That is the sort of tailgate I was thinking of, was hoping to get more details of how its been done before. The panelwork isnt an issue but more on how to hinge it to try to cut back on wasted time.

Look at something like the landcruiser wagon tailgates, the top ones have a large C form hinge

Back on the job to-day, cleaning up surface rust from sitting and finishing some rust repair panels for the floor. Also needed to take off the L/H front guard to fix some rust at the bottom and the sill. Also the top of the guard was mig welded to the body and both the guard and body needs repair.

The shed isn't mine its where I purchased it from. Its turning out to be a bigger job than I expected. The daggy seats will stay, sorry. I got a can of deep metallic red with the van but unsure if I will use it or a different color, I will have plenty of time to decide. It has the original 1600 dismantled and some new parts for the rebuild so maybe a warm crossflow. The gearbox had already been rebuilt with a quick shift. It also has 4 piston calipers with what I think are 2ltr struts, the tubes are approx. 51mm and 14" wheels. It needs some work on the wheel arches to clear the tyres.

My van looked ok when I bought it but closer poking about found a list of panels needing replacing . Smcka is a good start for your front panel and other bits like floors, sills , hinge posts.
When I fitted the new rear arches I widened them by 20mm and raised them 25mm from stock, fronts got swapped for twink arches for clearance as well..they can fit mk2 van too
