Looks good Rhys,

I also run an Lj 6 cylinder radiator in my car. I am not sure what is planned for the space infront of the radiator, although I had to move my engine back 25mm from the standard location to fit some decent sized fans to stop my car overheating in traffic.

Cheers,

Damion

G'Day Damion,

How did you mount yours? Got any pics you want to share?
I've not yet trial fitted engine but used by other Escort as a guide for space whilst I did conversion.
I cut rad mounts out of the shell, then a fair bit from each side (welded in flat steel so radiator could sit flat rather than on the factory pressed humps), some from bottom and some from top to get radiator sitting in to the front of car as close as possible. Without cutting the top slam panel out I won't be able to get it to sit any further forward.

Do you run a 2core or 3? and what size fans? I should be able to go to 10"s side by side or one 13"

I will have an intercooler sitting in the section below grill where the two cutouts are, this also limits how far bottom of radiator could sit in.

Thanks,
Rhys

Hi Rhys,

Mine sits similarly to yours. I will try to have a look tonight, I will definitely have some photos somewhere. It is a triple core radiator, I can't remember the size of the fans off the top of my head. I think I may have a 9" and a 10" - they are Spal fans. I initially had two Davies Craig 8" fans and they were useless.

Cheers,

Damion

Thanks Damion, will be good to see if you do find them. Mine is currently 2core so I'll have a bit more space but may need 3core if its having cooling issues.

This is a pretty old pic when it was first done. I will see if I can find anything else.

Small update, been working on front end to get it rolling again. Have pulled coilovers apart, cleaned up struts and repainted. Fitted Kmac tops I had from another Escort.

Welded a heap of the X-member to give it some more rigidity and added a tow mount.

Fitted Quick-Rack, Anti-Dive, Sway Bar and Adjustable Lower Control arm

Made a new brake lines from splitter to brake front hoses, now just waiting on front brake upgrade/5 stud hubs to be delivered so I can fit that and put it down on wheels. I'm going to try the M/Cyl without remote booster as it was previously setup.

I picked up a Haltech E6X a month or two back to run it all and bought up a pair of 10" thermos today. Slowly progressing

Thanks,
Rhys

Some progress from last year or so, in between playing with other cars.

Dummied motor and came back with CR too high for my application using a std Felpro gasket. Back to drawing board, using a Cometic MLS gasket now and had some meat taken out of pistons to get down to 9.0:1 CR

Next was gearbox selection, originally I was going use the box that came in car, think its a 4spd quci kratio type box but this was when I was to use an otherwise std 2lt as base for turbo project, since I've upped the motor spec I have decided to go with a Celica 5spd.

Measured up and picked a box. Clutch and pilot bearing sleeve were next.

Next was dummy fit motor and box. Had lots of issues with sump clearance on x-member and bellhousing hitting tunnel. I beat the tunnel until it started splitting at which point I decided to cut it all out and go big.

Reinforced around tunnel near extension housing of gearbox as car had previously been a bit hacked and wanted to get some rigidity back.
