Hi all,
 
I bought a pad fitting kit for my M16 calipers and they use a different spring to the local cars (see image).  With only 2 springs supplied in the kit, it appears that only one is required per caliper, versus the two smaller ones locally.  I've fiddled around with these things for a bit, but am uncertain exactly how they are to go on.  The only time I've seen similar springs used was with one of these on top and then a supplementary one attached to the bottom.  Even attaching this one on top in that way looks and feels wrong though, and of course the bottom of the pad isn't secure.  Any ideas?
 
Alternatively, are the springs used in Au still available, and if so, from where?

What you have pictured is exactly the same as the aussie cars had as standard. The pad backing shims go between the pad and the caliper piston with the arrow indicating the forward direction of the rotor. The 'M' shaped spring is there to push the pads away from the disc when the brakes are not being applied. this is designed to stop noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) which causes brake squeal. There is only one spring required per caliper and it was fitted to the top pad retaining pin.
 
I might have a spare caliper with this stuff fitted if you need a photo.

Interesting; I thought maybe it was a UK thing.  Because I've had my Escort so long, I'm pretty sure that I am still running the original clips, of which there are two per caliper, one of which can be seen in Fig 14 on page 2-5 of the Ford 1977 Escort service manual.  As I can't quite satisfy myself that the arrangement I tried with the M shaped spring is right, I'd very much appreciate a photo if you can arrange one Gdub, as my original springs are rather crusty after so many years, and so I'd prefer to replace them.

I checked my calipers that are not currently on a car but they have all been ratted of clips.  My RS has M16's with all the clips fitted including the "M" clips  so if you can wait until next weekend i will pull a wheel off and take a photo.
