The vented Capri disc was the factory upgrade by Ford and on an Escort 2lt strut it gives about 10mmfor Escorts to the steering arm and about 4 - 6mm to the rubber boot around the tie rod end - depending upon the boot and amount of squash in it....

I had about 2mm between the tie rod end and the disc (on 2L struts), until I changed the tie rod ends recently, and they now touch.  Looks like I'll have to revert to solid discs to get my clearance back, at least in the short term.  What a nuisance.

Why do you think I designed my own vented brake kit

Thanks for the feedback fellas.  My reading of the ADR indicates that the 10mm clearance is not absolute, but discressionary.  They say "recommended clearance of 10mm".  So I figure it is the certifying engineers call.  I think he may be prepared to deviate slightly from the 10mm.  In any event, my suspension is not fully set up and aligned at the moment, and as I have adjustable strut tops the clearance may change for the better (I hope).
If I need to go back to solid discs, can anyone advise me if the TX3 discs being used by many have the wheel stud drillings to suit the Escort 4 x 108 pcd, or do these need re-drilling?

I am just doing this at the moment.  The TX3 slotted rotors (DBA101S) use the same hub mount PCD as escorts I am led to believe.

Wozzah recomended the use of locating rings to ensure the rotors are located correctly.

The laser discs DBA101s need the holes enlarged slightly (about 1-2mm) as the pcd is not quiet correct, just finished doing it myself

Hey Mish,

How did you enlarge the holes?  Drill them or file?

i just oversized drilled them, the bolts then run on the inside edge of all 4 holes if that makes sence, just be sure to get it as centred as possible and do them up tight

What keeps the rotor concentric on the hub?
Escort centre is 68mm and the TX3 is 75mm - the rotor will rely on the mounting bolts to retain concentricity.
I doubt an engineer would accept that unless insrts are fitted .......

Laser bolt holes are larger diameter as well as larger pcd. It so happens that if laser rotor is used as is it will bolt up to escort hub concentrically due to inside edges of the rotor holes being tight fit on the bolts. Perfectly concentric, checked!

Whether a specific engineer is happy with that is entirely up to the engineer, so you are best clarifying with your engineer.
