I am installing Mark 1 Capri struts into a Mark 1 Escort with Volvo 4 pots and vented discs.  Clearance between disc and steering rod ball joint is super close.  Can anyone advise of a good solution to this problem?

This is a common problem with the escort Volvo conversion and why many use the Capri struts.

Get some pics and we can go from there

Yes, my clearance is 5 to 6mm.  I am using the BMW E30 vented discs.  I am relieved you guys have about the same clearance.  Would a Engineer have any problems with this?

I think you will need minimum 10mm clearence to pass engineers. But don't quote me on that.

My engineer never even commented on my brake upgrade years ago when I got my engineers certificate...
The vented Capri disc was the factory upgrade by Ford and on an Escort 2lt strut it gives about 10mmfor Escorts to the steering arm and about 4 - 6mm to the rubber boot around the tie rod end - depending upon the boot and amount of squash in it....

I just told the engineer it was the factory option (which it was in England) and he ticked it off....
Never had an issue with the tie rod boot being that close in years of road and track use.... just be aware when replacing the tie rod that some boots are larger than others....
