Industrial alloy springs in adelaide are the competition to king springs and have been around
for decades. They make coil springs for all cars I have never had a problem with them in my escorts.

If you're in Adelaide don't gin around just go and see Mike Dale in Jacobsen cres Holden Hill he's next door to Velo seats
And also go with a 22mm bar and go to at least 220lb front coils as 190's are too soft especially for a 2 litre and make sure they are linear rate fronts

Hey Ryan,
Let us know how you are going with this. I would be interested to see what you end up installing and where you manage to source all the parts from.

Sorry, ive been on holiday for a while without a computer. Ok, thanks, thats a good idea. He tuned my carby and i was really happy with the results! Ill go and see him about it.

Well the going is a bit slow due to the fact that my bank account doesnt like me much, but at this stage I have bought the 190lb springs from smckaperformance. I went to industrial springs and their heavy duty front springs were 193lb, so i figured they would be ok, but that was before i saw danny m's post!

Have i made a mistake??

Also i now have a 22mm front bar from kmac

I want to do all the suspension at the same time so ive got to buy things one at a time so i still have money, im in uni and dont have a huge income.

One thing i want to reduce is castor the wrong way (sorry, forgot whether its called negative or positive) but the bottom of the outside wheel is further under the car than the top when i turn. So ive been thinking about strut tops too.
I currently have stage 1 kmac adjustable strut tops which came with the car, but the strut top isnt much smaller than the hole it goes through, so i dont have any room for adjustment! There is only a couple if mm around it, so they are basically useless. Will different strut tops solve this problem and give me more adjustment?

The thought of unwanted company came to mind too as ive been caution defected a while ago for having spotlights on the front! She tried to say that the fuel filter wasnt meant to be there too......

Anyway are adjustable tops legal? I didnt think they are but i told her it was standard anyway

Thanks again!

Godd to see it's coming along.

With your strut tops it really depends on what you want the car for?  If it will be for track days then you probably want the higher rated springs.

As to the strut tops, they are probably fine for the street but if you want more adjustment then you should get something like these from Eurospeed -

You can also match them up with the adjustable TCA's for more fine tuning and maximum camber and caster.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks Matt!

Well its my daily driver and will be for a long time. I wouldnt mind taking it to the odd track day but the most important thing is for it to be good on the street.

Those tops look good! I just went onto the website, but i didnt see those adjustable ones on there...? Ive checked out the kmac race strut tops too and the eccentric ones from group 4 with the off-centre hole for camber/caster. Really i want the most possible caster. I like the kmac ones for ease of adjustment, might have to bite the bullet and cough up 420 bucks.

Yea the adjustable control arms crossed my mind, but i reckon i might be able to hang on to the old ones and run just a bit of camber using the strut tops.

Bit worried about those springs i bought now... might just fit them up and see how they go. In the end i can always go a higher rate later on if im not happy.

Ryan,

If you email Eurospeed and ask them to send you a catalogue via email you'll get the whole lot with prices to.

The tops I have are to suit the smaller diameter strut holes found in the MKI's & Early MKII's so I'll need the get them redrilled to suit my late MKII hence why I haven't installed them yet.

Not sure if you get more movement from the race style tops from KMAC.  I think they just use different bushes (I got this a while ago from KMac -

Stage 1 - Street - steel construction with thrust ball bearing race encased in urethane, $380 inc GST.
Stage 2 - Street/Race - alloy construction with urethane encased spherical bearing in replaceable centre, $480 inc GST
Stage 3 - Full Race - as with Stage 2, but no urethane or flex for tauter response, $480 inc GST.
Once you get the K-Mac bar in coupled with the existing struts tops you may find you'll have enough camber to suit your needs.
Good luck
Matt

GIven you have the adjustable bar from KMac and if you go the

Thanks again,

I just emailed eurospeed so will have a look when they send it to me.

Yea that sounds smart, tops are something i can always change later on without much farting about (im assuming?) and i wont know how my current ones really are until the bar and new bushes are in. Might turn out to be solid enough with new bushes springs and shocks to make me happy. The springs being lower will create a little more camber anyway.

The rest of the suspension bushes, control arm, swar bar etc are pretty knackered so they wont be helping matters at the moment.

If anyone else has different strut tops fitted id like to hear what people think, how much and where from!

Cheers,
Ryan

I think once you get your stuff as well as replace the knackered bushes with new nolathane ones then you will have a car that handles very well indeed.

Good luck
